local context
Boracay's wild, undeveloped northern beach — puka shells, fewer crowds, and raw beauty
Puka Shell Beach sits at the northern tip of Boracay and is the island's most natural, least developed major beach — a long arc of coarser white sand that gets its name from the naturally occurring puka shell fragments scattered throughout. The beach faces north, giving it a different light and wind exposure than White Beach. Development is minimal — a handful of simple restaurants and drink stalls rather than the resort hotels and beach clubs of the south. The water here is generally calm with good snorkelling at the rocky outcrops at each end of the bay. Puka is popular with day-trippers from the main beach stations but retains a secluded feel in the early morning and late afternoon.
