Phu Quoc Area GuideSao Beach, Phu Quoc, Vietnam
Phu Quoc's most beautiful beach β powdery white sand in a protected eastern bay
Sao Beach (Bai Sao) is consistently ranked among Vietnam's finest beaches β a compact, crescent-shaped bay on Phu Quoc's southeastern coast with exceptionally fine white sand and unusually clear turquoise water. Unlike the west coast beaches, Sao faces east and is sheltered from the southwest monsoon, meaning it retains calm, swimmable conditions through most of the year. The beach is only about 1 kilometre long, which helps maintain its intimate scale. Several open-air seafood restaurants and beach bars operate directly on the sand, serving fresh fish and cold drinks with open views of the bay. Sao Beach is a 30-minute drive from Duong Dong town and is typically visited as a half-day trip.

questions & answers
How do I get to Sao Beach?
Sao Beach is approximately 25 km from Duong Dong town β about a 30-minute motorbike ride or 45-minute taxi. Motorbike is the most popular way for independent travellers; the route passes through Phu Quoc National Park on a good sealed road. Many guesthouses in Duong Dong can arrange motorbike rental or day tour packages that combine Sao Beach with the An Thoi night squid fishing boats or cable car.
Is Sao Beach good for snorkelling?
Sao Beach has some coral visible from the beach in the clear water, but dedicated snorkelling requires a boat trip to the An Thoi Archipelago or nearby islands. The beach's eastern exposure means it has less wave action and clearer water than west coast beaches, making shallow-water snorkelling more productive. For the best snorkelling on Phu Quoc, book an island-hopping tour to the Coral Garden area south of An Thoi.
