Phu Quoc Area GuideGanh Dau, Phu Quoc, Vietnam

Ganh Dau, Phu Quoc

Phu Quoc's remote northwestern tip β€” quiet beaches and views across to Cambodia

Ganh Dau is a small fishing village at the northwestern tip of Phu Quoc, known for its quiet beach, fresh seafood restaurants, and unusually clear views across the narrow strait to the Cambodian coastline. On clear days, the hills of Kampot Province are visible with the naked eye β€” a rare vantage point that underscores Phu Quoc's geographic proximity to Cambodia. The village has a handful of seafood restaurants serving some of the freshest fish on the island at local prices. Ganh Dau beach is narrow and not ideal for swimming, but the drive through the northern reaches of Phu Quoc National Park is scenic, and the cape viewpoint offers excellent photography. It's primarily a day-trip destination from Duong Dong.

  • Views to Cambodia β€” the closest point on the island to the Cambodian coast
  • Fresh seafood restaurants β€” local-priced catch eaten in simple open-air settings
  • Drive through Phu Quoc National Park β€” the most forested scenic route on the island

questions & answers

Frequently Asked Questions

How far is Ganh Dau from Duong Dong?

Ganh Dau is approximately 24 km north of Duong Dong β€” about 35–45 minutes by motorbike on the sealed road through the national park. The drive itself is the attraction: passing through dense tropical forest with occasional wildlife sightings. Most visitors combine Ganh Dau with a stop at Cua Can village beach (halfway) and Ong Lang Beach on the return.

What seafood is best at Ganh Dau?

Ganh Dau's restaurants serve whatever the local boats brought in that morning β€” typically grouper, snapper, crab, mantis shrimp, and clams. Grilled whole fish (ca nuong) and steamed crab with ginger and tamarind (cua hap gung) are highlights. Prices are noticeably lower than in Duong Dong or the resort area. Point at what you want in the display tanks and agree on a price before it's cooked β€” standard practice throughout Vietnamese seafood restaurants.
