February continues Phu Quoc's dry season glory. Tet — Vietnam's most important national holiday — usually falls in late January or February, bringing a surge of domestic Vietnamese tourists and a festive atmosphere across the island. Markets, restaurants, and resorts are decorated with red and gold; fireworks are banned on Phu Quoc (unusual for Vietnam) but celebrations are enthusiastic. Outside the Tet window, February has excellent conditions with slightly fewer foreign tourists than January. Valentine's Day adds another romantic dimension.

Tet — Vietnamese Lunar New Year
Late January or early to mid-February (lunar calendar, date varies yearly)Vietnam's most important holiday transforms Phu Quoc — flower markets, traditional foods, lantern decorations, and family gatherings. Vietnamese domestic tourists take over the island for 7–10 days. Foreign visitors get a genuine cultural experience that's hard to find outside of Vietnam.
Valentine's Day
14 FebruaryPhu Quoc's luxury resorts offer sunset dinner packages, couples spa treatments, and beachside romantic setups for Valentine's Day — one of the island's most popular romantic destinations.
travel tips
During Tet week, some small local restaurants and shops close for the family holiday — book dining options in advance or stick to resort restaurants if your visit is during the main Tet days.
If you're visiting in the first days after Tet (Vietnamese New Year period), local staff at shops and restaurants may be reduced — this is normal and not a cause for concern.
The Dinh Cau Night Market operates through February — try grilled scallops with spring onion and oil (sò điệp), sea snails, and fresh seafood at local prices. One of Phu Quoc's best affordable food experiences.
common questions
Tet on Phu Quoc has a festive, authentic Vietnamese character — flower stalls, kumquat trees outside businesses, traditional bánh chưng (sticky rice cakes), and family celebrations. Foreigners are welcomed warmly into the celebration atmosphere. The main impact: some local restaurants close for a few days around the actual Tet date, and accommodation prices spike during the holiday week.
Excellent. February has some of the year's best snorkelling visibility — calm Gulf of Thailand, minimal plankton bloom (that sometimes muddies September–October), and clear water at the An Thoi Islands (Gam Ghi Island is the clearest). Full-day An Thoi Islands tours (200,000–350,000 VND group) run daily.
Very busy, particularly during Tet week. The Tet holiday is Phu Quoc's single busiest week of the year — accommodation books out months ahead. Outside of Tet, February is busy but not as intensely crowded as peak Tet days. Sao Beach and Long Beach have sunbeds available if you arrive by 9 am.
