Phu Quoc sights
Sao Beach (Bãi Sao)
Long regarded as Phu Quoc's most beautiful beach — a curve of powder-white sand and calm, clear turquoise water backed by coconut palms in the island's southeast. Beach bars, loungers, and a swing or two complete the postcard.
About
Bãi Sao, or Star Beach, is the beach that appears on most Phu Quoc postcards, and it is widely considered the most beautiful on the island. Tucked into a sheltered bay on the southeastern coast near An Thoi, it is a long, gentle curve of exceptionally fine, soft white sand, lapped by calm, clear, pale-turquoise water and backed by a fringe of leaning coconut palms. The shallow, sheltered conditions make it excellent for swimming and simply lazing, and the beach has developed a string of relaxed beach bars and restaurants renting loungers and serving fresh seafood, along with the now-obligatory over-water swings and photo props. It does get busy, especially when day-trippers and tour groups arrive around midday, so early morning or late afternoon are the most peaceful and photogenic times. It pairs naturally with the southern sights — the cable car, Sunset Town, and the prison museum — into a day exploring the An Thoi end of the island.
