quick answer
The best time to visit Boracay is November to May — the Amihan (northeast monsoon) season brings clear skies, calm White Beach, and perfect swimming conditions. November is often ideal: the busiest Christmas–February peak hasn't started yet, but the rainy season has just ended. The Habagat season (June–October) brings rain and rougher seas, but Bulabog Beach (east side) lights up for kitesurfing.

Boracay's Amihan season — the northeast monsoon — is the island's prime tourist window. White Beach, which faces west, is shielded from the NE wind during this period, creating calm, turquoise conditions perfect for swimming, paddleboarding, and sunset watching.
December through February is peak season: hotels are fully booked, flights are priciest, and the island is at maximum capacity. Book accommodation at least 3–4 months ahead if visiting between Christmas and Valentine's Day. March and April are slightly quieter with perfect conditions.
May is a transitional month. Weather is still mostly clear but the first Habagat rains can arrive. Water sports operators often continue operating, but check forecasts daily.
The Habagat (southwest monsoon) season is Boracay's low season. Rain comes in heavy bursts, often in the afternoon, and White Beach can become rough and choppy with southwesterly swell. Flags are put up and swimming may be restricted.
However, Bulabog Beach on the eastern side of the island becomes the star attraction during Habagat. The consistent SW wind creates perfect kitesurfing and windsurfing conditions, making Boracay one of Southeast Asia's premier kitesurfing destinations from June through October.
Typhoon risk is real from June to November. Ferries to and from Boracay are cancelled when Typhoon Signal No. 1 or above is raised — occasional travellers have been stranded for 2–5 days. Check PAGASA (the Philippine weather bureau) forecasts and have flexible travel dates if visiting during this period.

August–September: ★★☆☆☆ — Peak typhoon season risk. Cheapest prices. Experienced travellers only.
October: ★★★☆☆ — Typhoon risk still present but easing. Prices low, Amihan returning.
questions & answers
What is the best month to visit Boracay?
November is often considered the sweet spot — Amihan has arrived so White Beach is calm, but it's before the Christmas–February peak crowd. March is another excellent choice with perfect conditions and smaller crowds.
Is Boracay worth visiting during the rainy season?
For kitesurfers and budget travellers, yes. White Beach gets rough and swimability varies, but Bulabog Beach is at its best for water sports. Prices drop 30–50% and the island is less crowded.
What is the typhoon risk in Boracay?
Boracay is in the typhoon belt. Risk is highest June–November, peaking in August–September. When a typhoon signal is raised, ferries stop and you may be stranded. Check PAGASA forecasts and buy travel insurance with cancellation coverage.
Is it safe to swim at White Beach year-round?
During Amihan season (November–May), White Beach is calm and very safe. During Habagat (June–October), waves and currents can make swimming unsafe — follow flag warnings.
When is kitesurfing season in Boracay?
The prime kitesurfing season is November to February on Bulabog Beach (east side), when Amihan winds are strongest and most consistent. Habagat season (June–October) also brings wind to Bulabog but with typhoon risk.
