This mosque in central Mataram is hard to miss—a gleaming golden dome topped by a 99-meter minaret that dominates the skyline. It's the Islamic Center of West Nusa Tenggara and functions as both a working place of worship and a tourist draw. You can climb the minaret by stairs or elevator for views across the city and coast, especially lovely at sunset. The interior holds intricate calligraphy, stained glass, and prayer halls for up to 15,000 people. An adjacent cultural museum covers Islamic art and Lombok history. Entry is free; there's a small fee to go up the minaret. Dress modestly—robes and headscarves are provided if needed.
