About
Free, open daily sculpture in Cebu City's Parian district depicting the island's layered history. Created by renowned Filipino artist Eduardo Castrillo and completed in 2000, the concrete, bronze, brass, and steel monument shows pivotal scenes: Magellan's arrival and the cross, Lapu-Lapu's resistance at the Battle of Mactan, the Basilica del Santo Niño, and leaders like Sergio Osmeña Sr. It's essentially Cebu's story told in stone and metal—from pre-colonial times through Chinese merchant influence to Spanish colonization and faith. Located on Colon Street, easy to reach by jeepney, taxi, or on foot if you're already downtown exploring.
