Top Things to See in Cebu
Cebu's must-visit heritage sites, waterfalls, peaks, and islands — with locations and tips for each
Temples & Landmarks
Magellan's Cross
A wooden cross planted on the orders of Ferdinand Magellan in 1521 to mark the first Christian baptism in the Philippines, now housed in a small domed chapel in the heart of Cebu City. The founding symbol of Philippine Christianity.
Basilica del Santo Niño
The oldest Roman Catholic church in the Philippines, founded in 1565, and home to the revered Santo Niño — a statue of the Holy Child Jesus given by Magellan in 1521. A major pilgrimage site, busiest during the January Sinulog festival.
Fort San Pedro
The oldest and smallest Spanish fort in the Philippines, a triangular coral-stone bastion begun in 1738 on the site of an earlier 1565 stockade. Its ramparts and shaded garden courtyard sit in Plaza Independencia by the old harbour.
Temple of Leah
A grand Roman-inspired temple of columns and statuary built in the Busay hills as a monument of one man's love for his late wife, offering sweeping views over Cebu City. A modern landmark and hugely popular photo spot.
Nature & Scenery
Kawasan Falls & Canyoneering
Cebu's most famous waterfall — tiers of vivid turquoise pools in the jungle near Badian, and the finish line of the island's signature canyoneering adventure: a few hours of jumping, swimming, and sliding down the river canyon above.
Osmeña Peak
The highest point on Cebu at 1,013 m, ringed by jagged, saw-tooth hills that look like a green dragon's back. A short, easy hike leads to the summit for sunrise, sunset, and overnight camping with views to both coasts.
Sirao Flower Garden
The 'Little Amsterdam of Cebu' — a hillside farm of celosia (cockscomb), sunflowers, and other blooms laid out in bright rows, with windmills, swings, and photo props. A colourful, family-friendly stop in the cool Busay highlands.
Moalboal Sardine Run
Off Panagsama Beach, millions of sardines swirl in a vast shimmering 'bait ball' just metres from shore, snorkellable straight off the reef edge. Moalboal also offers sea turtles, a wall dive, and a relaxed diving-town vibe.
Beaches & Towns
Mactan Island
Cebu's resort and beach hub, connected to the city by bridges and home to the international airport. Base for island-hopping to nearby reefs and sandbars, with diving, snorkelling, and the historic Lapu-Lapu Shrine.
Bantayan Island
A laid-back island off Cebu's northern tip, famous for powdery white sand, shallow turquoise water, and an unhurried pace. Reached by ferry from Hagnaya, it's the island for slow beach days and sunsets rather than nightlife.
Malapascua Island
A small island off Cebu's northern tip and one of the only places on earth to reliably dive with thresher sharks, which rise to a cleaning station at dawn. Also a relaxed beach escape with white sand and other dive sites.
Sumilon Island Sandbar
A small island off Oslob in the far south, ringed by a shifting white sandbar and a protected marine sanctuary with clear water and healthy reef. A popular day trip for snorkelling, swimming, and beach time.
