business.about
More than just old stones, Fort San Pedro is a living slice of Cebu's colonial history. Built in 1738, this triangular stone fortress was the first Spanish settlement in the Philippines. With thick 6.1-meter walls, fourteen original cannons, and three distinct bastions, it's survived revolutions, world wars, and changing governments. The fort sits in Plaza Independencia, near Cebu's pier. Once a military stronghold defending against Muslim raiders, it later became an American barracks, a school, and even a Japanese refugee site. Today, visitors can walk its historic grounds and imagine the centuries of stories within its walls.
