Mount Tapyas Viewpoint

A climb of more than 700 steps above Coron town to a hilltop crowned by a giant cross, rewarded with a sweeping panorama over Coron Bay and its scattered islands — the classic spot for sunset.

About

Mount Tapyas is the hill that rises directly behind Coron town, and climbing it is the classic land-based thing to do between island-hopping days. A concrete stairway of more than 700 steps zigzags up the slope to a summit deck crowned by a large illuminated cross, and the climb — sweaty but manageable in 20–30 minutes — rewards you with the best panorama in the area: a 360-degree sweep over Coron town, the bay, and the dark silhouettes of Coron Island and the scattered islets beyond. It is most popular in the late afternoon, when people time the climb to reach the top for sunset and the cooler air, and the cross lights up after dark. There's no entrance fee, just the steps and a railing the whole way, making it one of Coron's easiest and most rewarding free attractions — ideally done with water and on a clear evening.
