Cebu Area GuideTalisay, Cebu, Philippines

Talisay, Cebu

Residential city with historical significance south of Cebu City

Talisay City sits immediately south of Cebu City along the southwest coast and is primarily a residential city that serves as a bedroom community for the capital. Its historical significance comes from being the site of the ancestral home of José Rizal's family — the Rizal Shrine — and from its position on the route south toward Moalboal, Oslob, and Badian. The Talisay coastline has several informal beach areas and the city has a growing commercial strip along the South Coastal Road. For travellers heading to south Cebu, Talisay is often the first city passed after leaving Cebu City.

  • Rizal Shrine — the ancestral home of national hero José Rizal's family
  • South Coastal Road gateway to Moalboal, Kawasan Falls, and Oslob
  • Tabunok Market — one of Cebu's major public markets

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Talisay worth stopping in on the way to south Cebu?

Talisay is primarily a pass-through city for travellers heading south. The Rizal Shrine is a worthwhile quick stop (30 minutes) for those interested in Philippine history. The city also has good local eateries and convenience options along the highway if you need to stock up before heading to Moalboal or Oslob. There are no major tourist attractions that justify an extended stay.
