Bird sanctuary, marine reserve, and island hopping east of Mactan
Olango Island lies approximately 8 km east of Mactan and is part of Lapu-Lapu City, accessible by a short outrigger boat ride from Santa Rosa Wharf in Cordova. It is best known for the Olango Island Wildlife Sanctuary — a protected wetland and one of the most important migratory bird sites in the Philippines, hosting tens of thousands of migratory shorebirds between September and March. Beyond the bird sanctuary, Olango has a marine sanctuary with clear waters ideal for snorkelling and freediving, a relaxed fishing village character, and basic seafood restaurants near the shore. It is one of the easiest island escapes from Mactan and Cebu City, achievable in a half-day trip.
