Dry Season

Visiting Bali in May

May is one of Bali's best-kept secrets. Dry season has properly arrived: skies are clear, humidity drops, and the island emerges from the wet season looking its most spectacular. European and Australian peak season hasn't started yet, so crowds are manageable and prices remain reasonable. May is arguably the perfect balance point — excellent weather without the July–August surge.

The dry season is in full effect, weather is reliably sunny, humidity is lower than the wet season, and tourist crowds haven't yet reached the peak levels of June–August. Prices are noticeably lower than peak season. If you can only visit once, May hits the sweet spot of excellent weather, manageable crowds, and reasonable cost.

Temperatures are comfortable (26–31°C), humidity drops compared to wet season months, and skies are reliably clear. The southeast trade winds begin arriving in May, bringing some cooling breezes particularly along the south coast. Sea conditions are calming on the south and east coasts.

What are the best things to do in Bali in May?

May is perfect for Bali's full range of activities. Top picks: Uluwatu and Padang Padang surfing (excellent May swells), Nusa Penida day trip (sea conditions ideal, crowds manageable), Tegallalang and Jatiluwih rice terraces, sunrise on Gunung Batur, Ubud Monkey Forest and art galleries, Seminyak beach clubs, cooking classes, and temple-hopping (Tanah Lot, Besakih, Uluwatu).
