Phu Quoc sights
Phu Quoc National Park
A UNESCO Biosphere Reserve covering more than half the island in protected tropical rainforest, with hiking trails, birdlife, and remote northern corners like Gành Dầu and Rạch Tràm for those wanting wild, undeveloped Phu Quoc.
About
Phu Quoc National Park protects the wild, green heart of the island — more than half of Phu Quoc's land area, concentrated in the hilly, forested north, and recognised as part of a UNESCO-designated Biosphere Reserve. Within it lies one of the better-preserved tracts of lowland tropical rainforest left in southern Vietnam, home to hornbills, long-tailed macaques, silver langurs, and a rich variety of birds, insects, and plant life, including the rare melaleuca (tràm) forests that give the island some of its distinctive products. For visitors it offers a different side of Phu Quoc from the resorts: hiking and trekking trails of varying difficulty, the chance to spot wildlife, and remote, undeveloped corners such as the Gành Dầu headland and the mangroves and beaches around Rạch Tràm and Bãi Thơm. Some areas are easily reached by rented motorbike, while deeper trails are best done with a local guide. It rewards travellers who want nature and quiet over crowds.
