Visiting Phu Quoc in June

June is the heart of Phu Quoc's monsoon season. The southwest monsoon delivers heavy daily rainfall — typically in the afternoon — and Long Beach is routinely rough with closed swimming zones. Sao Beach on the southeast coast is more sheltered and can still be swimmable. The island's interior (national park, pepper farms, fish sauce factory) operates normally. Prices are at or near their yearly low. The 30-day visa exemption still applies. If beaches are the only goal, June is genuinely frustrating; for everything else, it's a low-cost adventure.

travel tips

Travel Tips for June

When Long Beach is too rough, take a Grab to Sao Beach — the 25-minute journey (50,000–70,000 VND) leads to a more sheltered beach that's often swimmable in the morning when Long Beach is already rough.

The Ham Ninh fishing village on the east coast is worth visiting in any weather — the stilted houses, fresh seafood, and local atmosphere are most accessible when Long Beach crowds drive visitors to explore inland.

June afternoon rain typically arrives between 2–5 pm — schedule outdoor activities for the morning and use afternoons for the night market, cooking classes, or resort relaxation.

common questions

FAQ — Bali in June

Is Phu Quoc's Sao Beach good in June?

Better than Long Beach in June. Sao Beach faces southeast and is partly sheltered from the southwest monsoon. On many June days, Sao Beach has calm enough water for swimming in the morning, while Long Beach is already rough. It's not guaranteed — conditions vary — but Sao Beach is the best bet for beach time during the monsoon months.

What can you do in Phu Quoc in June besides the beach?

Plenty: Vinpearl Safari open-range zoo, the national park trekking with a guide, the Khai Hoan fish sauce factory tour, pepper plantation visits in the island's centre, mangrove kayaking on Cua Can River, the Dinh Cau Night Market for seafood, and the Hon Thom Cable Car (indoor gondola — weather-independent). Phu Quoc has enough inland and cultural activities to fill 3–4 days regardless of sea conditions.

How bad is the rain in Phu Quoc in June?

June is one of Phu Quoc's rainiest months — typically 200–250mm spread over 18–20 rainy days. Rain usually arrives in the afternoon and can be a heavy downpour with thunder. Mornings (7 am–noon) are generally dry and cloudy. The rain is predictable rather than all-day — you can usually plan morning activities without rain disruption.
