Tumon Bay
Guam's main resort beach — a long crescent of white sand and calm, reef-protected turquoise water lined with hotels, restaurants, and shopping. The hub for swimming, snorkelling, and sunset, and the base most visitors stay in.
About
Tumon Bay is the tourist heart of Guam — a sweeping crescent of white-sand beach on the island's west coast, protected by an offshore reef that keeps the turquoise water calm, shallow, and clear. Most of the island's major hotels, resorts, restaurants, bars, and shopping line the strip behind it, so for the majority of visitors Tumon is both where they stay and where they spend most of their time. The reef-protected lagoon is excellent for swimming and easy snorkelling, with marine life close to shore (much of the bay is a protected preserve), and the gentle conditions suit families and beginners. The beach is public its whole length even where hotels back onto it, and its west-facing aspect makes it a fine place for sunset. Beyond the sand, Tumon is the centre of Guam's nightlife and duty-free shopping, giving it a lively, developed, resort-town atmosphere quite distinct from the quiet south.
