Twin Lagoon

Two lagoons on Coron Island separated by a towering limestone wall, linked by a small gap you swim under at high tide or a ladder over it. Inside, cool freshwater meets warm seawater in a shimmering, hazy blend.

About

Twin Lagoon is one of Coron Island's signature stops and, along with Kayangan Lake, a highlight of every Coron island-hopping tour. As the name suggests, it is two separate lagoons divided by a tall, sheer limestone wall: you arrive by boat into the outer lagoon, then pass into the hidden inner one either by ducking through a small gap at the base of the cliff (passable when the tide is low) or by climbing a wooden ladder up and over the rock wall when the water is high. The magic inside is partly visual and partly tactile — cold freshwater seeps up from below and mixes with the warmer seawater, creating a shimmering, slightly blurry 'halocline' effect against the towering cliffs that ring the lagoon. Most people swim or rent a kayak to paddle into the quiet inner basin. As with the rest of Coron Island, the area is cared for by the Tagbanua community, and a fee applies.
