Kayangan Lake

Often called the cleanest lake in the Philippines — a brackish, crystal-clear lake cradled in karst cliffs on Coron Island, reached by a short climb that passes the famous postcard viewpoint over Coron Bay.

About

Kayangan Lake, on rugged Coron Island in northern Palawan, is regularly described as one of the cleanest lakes in the Philippines, its water so clear that swimmers seem to float above the submerged rocks and limestone walls below. The lake is brackish — a mix of fresh and sea water — sheltered inside a bowl of dramatic karst cliffs and reached from the boat landing by a short but steep climb of stone steps. That climb delivers the other half of the experience: partway up sits the viewpoint that produces Coron's most famous postcard image, looking down over a turquoise cove studded with jagged rocks and moored bangka boats. The lake and the surrounding waters are the ancestral domain of the indigenous Tagbanua people, who manage and protect the area, so visits come with rules and a community fee. It is almost always combined with Twin Lagoon and other stops on a Coron island-hopping day tour.
