Top 10 Beaches in Palawan

Ranked by verified guest reviews — hidden lagoons to remote shores

By Island Seeker Editorial Team·Updated March 2026

Palawan's beaches are among the most untouched in Southeast Asia — a direct result of the province's protected status and the difficulty of accessing many of them. The lagoon beaches of El Nido, accessible only by kayak through gaps in the limestone cliffs, feel genuinely discovered rather than developed. Nacpan Beach north of El Nido stretches for 4 km with almost no facilities — just fine sand, calm water, and coconut palms. Port Barton in north Palawan has a string of island beaches with minimal development and extraordinary snorkelling. Rankings reflect verified guest review ratings.

Only active, verified listings appear.

insider tips

What to Know Before You Go

Palawan's best beaches require effort to reach

The beaches that appear in global 'world's best' rankings — the lagoon beaches of El Nido, the Coron lake-coves, the Nacpan twin beach — all require either a boat, a kayak, a motorcycle, or a significant walk to reach. This is a feature, not a bug: the effort involved keeps them less crowded and more pristine. Budget extra time in your itinerary for the unexpected — boat engine delays, weather windows, and logistics take time in Palawan.

Sea conditions dictate everything in Palawan

The Sulu Sea between El Nido and Coron can be rough, and strong winds or swell will cancel island tours and inter-island boat trips with little notice. November to May (particularly December to March) is the most reliable season for calm seas. June to October can bring strong westerly winds and squalls. Building flexibility into your itinerary is essential — if your boat tour is cancelled, you'll need an extra day. The islands are extraordinary enough to be worth the weather risk.

Arrive at El Nido's beaches before 10 am

The island-tour bangka (outrigger boats) from El Nido town depart 8–9 am and reach the main beaches and lagoons by 10–11 am. By midday, the most popular beaches — Seven Commandos Beach, Shimizu Island — have dozens of boats and hundreds of tourists. Staying on-island at one of the private resorts (Miniloc, Lagen) gives access to tour boats at the same time but from the islands themselves, which helps. Alternatively, rent a private boat for 15–20% more and time your visits around the crowds.

Leave beaches as pristine as you find them

Palawan is a UNESCO biosphere reserve and one of the Philippines' most environmentally protected areas. Littering, coral touching, and taking shells or marine life from the water are prohibited and enforced. Environmental fees are collected at most beach and marine area entry points. The exceptional beauty of Palawan's beaches and reefs is directly connected to these protections — visitors who respect them are preserving the experience for everyone who comes after.

questions & answers

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the most beautiful beach in Palawan?

This is genuinely subjective in Palawan's case — the island has too many extraordinary beaches for a clear answer. El Nido's Seven Commandos Beach inside Bacuit Bay is consistently cited as the most beautiful accessible beach in the Philippines. Nacpan Beach (or Nacpan-Calitang Twin Beach) north of El Nido is often rated the most perfect conventional beach. The secret beaches and lagoons accessible only by kayak in El Nido are the most dramatic. Palawan consistently tops global best-beach rankings.

Can you reach the El Nido lagoons without a tour?

Yes — you can rent a kayak independently in El Nido and paddle to the lagoons yourself, without joining a group island tour. The benefit is flexibility and solitude (visit before the tour boats arrive at 10 am). The requirement is reasonable kayaking fitness and comfort on open water, as some crossings involve exposed stretches between limestone islands. The Big Lagoon and Small Lagoon are best reached by kayak from Miniloc Island, accessible via the town's bangka boats.

Is Nacpan Beach worth the trip from El Nido?

Absolutely. Nacpan Beach — 40 minutes north of El Nido town by habal-habal (motorcycle taxi) — is a 4-km stretch of palm-lined white sand with almost no development: a few basic huts, some hammocks, and a handful of food stalls. The contrast with El Nido's busier beaches is striking. The northern end connects via a short walk to Calitang Beach, creating the Nacpan-Calitang Twin Beach — you can walk from one end to the other in under 30 minutes. Go on a weekday for near-solitude.

What is the best beach for snorkelling in Palawan?

Palawan sits in the Coral Triangle — the world's most biodiverse marine region — and most of its beaches have excellent snorkelling directly offshore. Coron's Bulog Dos Island and Coral Garden (near the wrecks) are extraordinary for reef diversity. El Nido's Shimizu Island and the outer lagoon reefs are consistently excellent. The Tubbataha Reef (accessed via live-aboard from Puerto Princesa) is considered one of the world's best dive and snorkel sites but requires a significant trip. For the most accessible snorkelling, any tour from El Nido or Coron will include excellent reef stops.
