About
Lanta Animal Welfare is a well-regarded non-profit charity in the north of Koh Lanta that has become one of the island's most popular and feel-good attractions. Founded to tackle the problem of stray and abandoned dogs and cats, it runs a shelter and clinic providing rescue, sterilisation, vaccination, treatment, and rehoming, and relies on donations and volunteers to do it. Visitors are warmly welcomed: you can take a free guided tour of the centre to meet the animals and learn about its work, and — a highlight for many — take one of the dogs for a walk on the nearby beach, which gives the animals exercise and socialisation. Animal lovers can also volunteer for a day or longer, helping with feeding, cleaning, cat-cuddling, and dog-walking. It's an ethical, rewarding, and genuinely useful stop that does real good, and it's especially popular with families and travellers missing their own pets back home.
