Top 10 Hotels in Koh Lanta

Ranked by verified guest reviews — updated from live ratings

By Island Seeker Editorial Team·Updated March 2026

Koh Lanta's accommodation is defined by boutique bungalows and small resorts rather than large chain hotels — a reflection of its character as a destination for long-stay independent travellers. Hat Khlong Dao (the most popular beach) has the greatest range of options from budget guesthouses to mid-range beachfront bungalows. Ao Phra Ae (Long Beach) offers more beachfront accommodation with direct sunset access. Kantiang Bay in the south has a smaller selection of mid-range to luxury resorts in a more dramatic and secluded setting. Khlong Nin and Khlong Khong have increasingly popular boutique options for travellers seeking a quieter base. The island notably lacks international luxury chain hotels — its best accommodation is indie boutique properties.

Only active, verified listings appear.

insider tips

What to Know Before You Go

Most of Koh Lanta's best accommodation is boutique, not chain hotels

Koh Lanta consciously resisted the mega-resort development that transformed Phuket. The best properties here are owner-run boutique bungalow resorts with 10–40 rooms — personal service, unique character, and genuine beach access. This is part of what attracts long-stay travellers who return year after year.

Staying south of Khlong Nin requires a motorbike

If you book accommodation at Kantiang Bay or further south, you'll need a motorbike to reach restaurants and activities in the north. The south of the island is more secluded — this is the appeal, but it's not practical without your own transport. Ensure your hotel has on-site dining or that you're comfortable with daily rides.

Many resorts close completely May–October

Unlike year-round beach destinations, Koh Lanta sees widespread accommodation closures during the wet season (roughly June–September). If visiting during this period, verify your chosen property is open and be prepared for reduced restaurant and activity options across the island.

questions & answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Which beach in Koh Lanta has the best hotels?

Hat Khlong Dao has the widest selection from budget to mid-range and is the easiest base for first-timers. Ao Phra Ae (Long Beach) has more mid-range to upscale beachfront bungalows with direct beach access. Kantiang Bay in the south is the most dramatic setting — the bay is stunning — but more isolated, requiring motorbike transport for dining and activities. For the quietest experience, Khlong Nin has a growing boutique scene.

What is the best area to stay in Koh Lanta?

Hat Khlong Dao is the best choice for first-timers — central location, wide sandy beach, restaurants and shops within walking distance, and a good range of accommodation. Ao Phra Ae (Long Beach) suits those wanting more space and a slightly quieter beach. Kantiang Bay is best for couples or honeymooners seeking seclusion. Saladan town suits budget travellers who prioritise easy island access over beachfront location.

Are there luxury resorts in Koh Lanta?

Koh Lanta has several boutique luxury properties, though not the mega-resort scale of Phuket. Sri Lanta, Pimalai Resort, and Layana Resort are among the island's premium options, offering private-pool villas, spa facilities, and high-end dining in exceptional settings. Rates at these properties run THB 6,000–20,000+ per night. Most are at the quieter southern beaches.

Is it better to book hotels in advance in Koh Lanta?

During peak season (December–February), especially Christmas and New Year, popular properties book out weeks or months in advance. March and April are also busy. In the shoulder months (November and March) you can often find good availability but price will be higher than off-season. Outside peak dates, booking 1–2 weeks ahead is usually sufficient.
