Koh Lanta sights

Koh Rok & Koh Haa

The headline snorkelling and diving day trips from Koh Lanta — Koh Rok's twin islands with white sand and clear shallow reefs, and Koh Haa's caverns, walls, and famous visibility. Reached by speedboat, with the best conditions in the dry season.

About

Koh Rok and Koh Haa are the two headline marine day trips from Koh Lanta, and the main reason many snorkellers and divers base themselves here. Koh Rok is a pair of uninhabited islands south of Lanta, ringed by powder-white beaches and shallow, crystal-clear water over healthy coral, making it one of the best snorkelling spots in the region — boat trips usually include several snorkel stops and a beach lunch. Koh Haa, a cluster of five small limestone islands closer to Lanta, is more of a diving and advanced-snorkelling destination, famous for its exceptional visibility, a sheltered turquoise lagoon, swim-through caverns, and a dramatic underwater 'Cathedral' chamber. Both are reached by speedboat or dive boat as full-day trips and lie within protected national park waters, so conditions are pristine but seasonal: the trips run in the dry season (roughly mid-October to mid-May) and stop during the monsoon, when the parks close and seas are rough.
