Visiting Bali in April

April is an underrated month in Bali. The wet season is winding down, rain becomes less frequent and less intense, and the island is still at its most lush and green. Tourist crowds haven't yet built to peak levels, prices are among the lowest of the year, and the dry season clarity is starting to emerge. An excellent choice for first-time visitors who want great weather and good value.

common questions

FAQ — Bali in April

Is April a good time to visit Bali?

April is genuinely excellent, particularly in the second half. It's a transitional month where you get increasingly good weather, notably lower prices than peak season, smaller crowds, and a Bali that feels relaxed and authentic. The rice terraces and jungle landscapes are at their most dramatic green. For budget-conscious travelers willing to accept a few rainy days, April is one of the best value months of the year.

What is the weather like in Bali in April?

April weather is transitional. Early April can still see heavy afternoon rain, but by mid-to-late April sunny days are increasingly common. The south (Seminyak, Kuta, Nusa Dua) clears up faster than Ubud and the highlands, which receive rain for longer. Sea conditions improve through April — swells on the east coast (Nusa Dua, Sanur) become calmer and better for swimming.

Is Nusa Penida worth visiting in April?

Yes — April is actually one of the best months for Nusa Penida. Sea crossings are calming from the rough wet season conditions, and the island's famous viewpoints (Kelingking Beach, Angel's Billabong, Broken Beach) are accessible with manageable tourist numbers. The manta ray snorkeling at Manta Point is often excellent in April. Go on a clear morning for the best conditions.

What should I pack for Bali in April?

Pack for transitional weather — light tropical clothing for warm sunny days, a compact rain jacket for the occasional afternoon shower, and sunscreen for all outdoor time. April humidity is high but improving. Quick-dry fabrics are practical. If hiking Gunung Batur, bring a warm layer — the summit (1,717m) is cool at dawn even in April. Insect repellent is advisable for evening outdoor dining.
