Cebu with Kids: Family Resorts and Things to Do
The best family resorts on Mactan, things to do by age, a sample day, costs and rainy-day plans
Verified 2026 Β· Island Seeker Editorial
Cebu works well for a family holiday, and the easiest base is a resort on Mactan Island, close to the airport, with pools and calm water on site. For waterslides, choose Jpark Island Resort & Waterpark; for indoor play, Shangri-La Mactan; for a day spent in the water, Plantation Bay. Older children can add day trips to Moalboal, Kawasan Falls or Oslob. Below you will find the resorts compared, things to do by age, a sample day, costs and rainy-day plans.
Resort Beach Access
Mactan Island resort beaches are mostly calm and reef-sheltered, an easy base for families. Always supervise children in the water.
Whale Sharks
Age rules for snorkelling at Oslob differ between sources, so confirm before you go. Children must be confident swimmers.
Kids' Clubs
Shangri-La Mactan has its Adventure Zone and Plantation Bay runs a children's boot camp. Check schedules at booking.
Sardine Run
Moalboal's sardine run is reachable from the beach with no boat. Keep children close, as boats pass near the shore.
Best Family Resorts in Cebu
All four are on Mactan. Kids' clubs, age limits and fees change, so confirm with the resort before booking.
- Jpark Island Resort & Waterpark: Best for waterslides. The resort lists six pools, three water slides and a wave pool, plus Captain Hook's Pool, a kids' pool with a pirate ship and mini slides, and a private beach. Booking sites also sell day passes if you are staying elsewhere.
- Shangri-La Mactan Resort & Spa: Best for indoor play. The Adventure Zone is a multilevel indoor playground, the Toddler's Zone is for children up to three with an adult, and the E-Zone has video games and table soccer. There is also a children's pool.
- Plantation Bay Resort and Spa: Best for a whole day in the water. The 11-hectare resort is built around its saltwater lagoon, with a main swimming pool, lagoon kayaking and a boot camp for children.
- Crimson Resort & Spa Mactan: Best for a dedicated kids' club. Travel listings describe the Crimzone kids' club for children 12 and under, a children's pool and paid babysitting. Confirm hours when you book.
Things to Do in Cebu with Kids, by Age
- Under 5: Keep days short: resort pools, the toddler areas above and the indoor Cebu Ocean Park. Save beach time for the cooler early morning and late afternoon.
- Ages 5 to 9: Add a Mactan island-hopping boat trip, with stops such as Hilutungan, Nalusuan or Caohagan, and snorkel only where your child is comfortable. A day at Jpark's pools fits this age too; check slide rules at the gate.
- Ages 10 and up: Swim with the sardines at Panagsama Beach in Moalboal, about 20 to 30 metres from shore with no boat needed, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Cebu City. Try canyoneering at Kawasan Falls, where operators set their own limits: the listings we checked start at 6 or 7 with a parent's consent, and some guides suggest 10 to 12.
A Sample Family Day on Mactan
- Early morning: Beach or pool at your resort before the heat builds.
- Late morning: A short island-hopping trip. A private boat lets you turn back when the children have had enough.
- Afternoon: Lunch, then a rest indoors during the hottest hours, followed by the pool or slides.
- Evening: An early dinner at the resort, around 6 to 7pm.
What It Costs
Prices below were checked in October 2026 and can change.
- Cebu Ocean Park: The park's online promo rate is β±750 on weekdays and β±900 on weekends and holidays. It is open daily from 10am to 6pm.
- Jpark day pass: Sold through booking sites, usually with a meal. Prices vary by platform and date, so compare before you buy.
- Island hopping: Sold per boat or per person. Ask for a quote that states what it includes: lunch, snorkel gear and marine sanctuary fees.
- Moalboal sardines: There is no entry ticket and no guide is needed. You only pay for snorkel gear, and rental prices vary between dive shops.
Rainy-Day Options
- Cebu Ocean Park: An indoor oceanarium at the SM Seaside complex in Cebu City, and the simplest answer to a wet day.
- Malls: The food courts at SM City Cebu and Ayala Center cover Filipino, Japanese, Korean and fast-food options under one roof.
- Your resort: Shangri-La Mactan's Adventure Zone is indoors, so it works in any weather if you are staying there.
π― Kid-Friendly Activities
Adventure, wildlife, and water experiences the whole family can enjoy
The most family-friendly activities in Cebu centre on the ocean. Mactan Island-hopping boat tours β visiting Hilutungan Marine Sanctuary for snorkelling, then Caohagan or Olango Island for beach time β work well for families with school-age children. The sardine run at Moalboal requires only basic snorkelling ability and delivers a marine spectacle unlike anything else in Asia. Whale shark snorkelling in Oslob is the most memorable single experience for older children β the whale sharks are enormous and entirely gentle; most children find them awe-inspiring rather than frightening. For land-based family days, the Cebu City historical loop (Basilica del Santo NiΓ±o, Fort San Pedro, Magellan's Cross) combines easy walking with genuinely interesting history that engages school-age children.
π½οΈ Family Restaurants
Welcoming restaurants with diverse menus covering all family tastes
Cebu's dining scene is naturally family-welcoming. Lechon β the whole roasted pig β is genuinely exciting for children to encounter and the mild, flavourful meat is almost universally popular with young eaters. For mixed family preferences, the food courts inside SM City Cebu and Ayala Center offer Filipino, Japanese, Korean, fast-food, and international options under one roof. Resort hotel restaurants on Mactan are built for family comfort β buffet formats at several properties eliminate the stress of menu negotiation with children. Avoid very late dinner reservations: Filipino families typically eat early (6β7pm), and most restaurants welcome children at any hour.
π¨ Family Hotels & Resorts
Resorts with kids' clubs, multiple pools, and calm beach access
Mactan is the easiest base for families: it has the airport, the resort beaches and the pools in one place. Compare the resorts above, then check the listings below for current details. For lower rates, mid-range Mactan hotels away from the main resort strip offer pool access and beach proximity at less cost.
questions & answers
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Cebu good for families with young children?
Yes, especially from a Mactan Island resort, where calm water, children's pools and restaurants are all on site and the airport is close. The main challenge for under-5s is the heat, so plan outdoor time for the early morning and late afternoon.
Which Cebu resorts are best for families?
Jpark Island Resort & Waterpark suits children who want slides and a wave pool. Shangri-La Mactan has an indoor playground and a toddler area, and Plantation Bay is built around its saltwater lagoon. Not every beach resort has a kids' club, so check before booking.
What is the best time to visit Cebu with kids, and how many days do you need?
December to May is the dry season, and February to April is the driest stretch. Rain is more likely from June, with higher typhoon risk from August to October, so keep boat trips flexible then. Four or five nights gives you time for resort days, a boat trip and one longer day trip.
Can children swim with whale sharks in Oslob?
Sometimes, but the rules are unclear: the sources we checked give minimum ages from 5 to 7, and some say younger children can only watch from the boat. Confirm with your operator or the Oslob tourism office. Oslob's whale sharks are fed to keep them there, and some families choose the Moalboal sardine run instead for that reason.
