questions & answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Which area of Palawan has the best hotels?

For luxury, El Nido Resorts' four island properties (Miniloc Island, Lagen Island, Pangulasian Island, Apulit Island) are the definitive Palawan luxury addresses — each on its own island within a protected marine reserve, accessible only by resort ferry. Amanpulo on Pamalican Island (private charter aircraft) is in a category of its own. For mid-range and budget, Puerto Princesa has the most consistent mid-range hotel infrastructure — air conditioning, pool, and reliable amenities at ₱2,000–₿5,000/night. El Nido town has a range of guesthouses and boutique hotels; Port Barton has the best budget beach accommodation. In Coron, Two Seasons Coron Island Resort is the most romantic option.

Should I base myself in El Nido town or stay at El Nido Resorts' island properties?

El Nido town gives you flexibility — easy access to multiple island-hopping tour operators, a choice of restaurants, and the option to change plans daily. It suits independent travellers who want to decide each morning what to do. El Nido Resorts' island properties (Miniloc, Lagen, Pangulasian) offer the complete opposite: complete seclusion, a managed environment, curated activities, and no need for daily planning. They suit travellers who want luxury without logistics. The island properties require boat transfers from El Nido town and have fixed departure times — planning around these transfers is the main logistical consideration.

Is Port Barton worth staying in?

Yes — Port Barton is one of Palawan's best-kept secrets for accommodation. A small fishing village on the west coast, it has several simple but atmospheric beach bungalows and guesthouses (₱500–₱1,500/night) set directly on a calm bay with good snorkelling. The atmosphere is completely different from El Nido — unhurried, local-feeling, and genuinely beautiful. Island-hopping day trips from Port Barton (German Island, Exotic Island, Pawikan Island) cover different but equally compelling sites to El Nido. The main limitation is access — Port Barton is reachable by shared van from Puerto Princesa (3–4 hours) or El Nido (3–4 hours on rough roads).
