Freedom Beach
A secluded 300-metre strip of powder-white sand and clear water tucked beneath forested cliffs near Patong, reachable mainly by longtail boat or a steep jungle trail. One of Phuket's prettiest beaches and far quieter than its neighbours.
About
Freedom Beach is frequently named among the most beautiful beaches on Phuket, and its relative inaccessibility is exactly what keeps it that way. Tucked into a cove just south of Patong beneath steep forested cliffs, the roughly 300-metre ribbon of fine, pale sand and clear turquoise water has no road access: most visitors arrive by longtail boat from Patong (a short, inexpensive ride), while the adventurous can scramble down a steep, rough jungle trail from above. The reward is a beach that feels a world away from Patong's bustle just around the headland — calm water that's good for swimming and snorkelling at the rocky ends, and far smaller crowds. There are usually a couple of simple beach bars renting loungers, but little else, so bring water and essentials. Note that the sea can be rough and boats stop running during the monsoon months, and the beach is best in the dry season.
