Top 10 Beaches in Phu Quoc

Ranked by verified guest reviews — sunset beaches to hidden island shores

By Island Seeker Editorial Team·Updated March 2026

Phu Quoc's beaches range from the busy resort-backed Long Beach on the west coast — the island's longest and most developed — to the spectacular white-sand isolation of Bai Sao in the south, the quiet boutique coves of Ong Lang in the north, and the pristine beaches of the An Thoi Archipelago accessible only by boat. The Gulf of Thailand produces consistently calm, warm water on the west coast, making most of Phu Quoc's beaches excellent for swimming. Rankings reflect verified guest review ratings.

insider tips

What to Know Before You Go

Sunset on Long Beach is a daily social event

Phu Quoc's west coast orientation means Long Beach gets direct sunset views over the Gulf of Thailand every evening. The beach bars and restaurants along the central section of Long Beach fill up from around 4:30 pm for the sunset. Rori's Bar, Mango Bay, and a dozen others set up sunbeds and serve cocktails with open ocean sunset views. The atmosphere is relaxed and distinctly Southeast Asian — nothing like the party beaches of Bali or Boracay.

Bai Sao is worth the 25-minute drive from Duong Dong

Bai Sao (Star Beach) is on the southeast coast — 25–30 minutes from Duong Dong town by scooter or taxi, past pepper farms and forested hillside. The beach itself has several restaurants serving fresh seafood and cold drinks directly on the sand. The water is extremely clear and shallow — excellent for paddling and swimming. Weekday visits are significantly quieter than weekends when Vietnamese domestic tourists arrive from the main resorts.

The northern beaches are less developed but harder to reach

Phu Quoc's north and northwest coast — Rach Vem starfish beach, Ganh Dau cape, and the beaches approaching Vinpearl's north resort — are quieter and less developed than Long Beach. The roads are rougher and facilities are minimal (basic food stalls, no sunbed hire). The starfish beach at Rach Vem fishing village is a distinctive stop: shallow clear water with dozens of starfish visible on the sandy seabed. Best visited on a guided scooter tour of the north circuit.

Monsoon season affects west and east beaches differently

From May to October, the southwest monsoon brings wind and swell to Phu Quoc's west coast (Long Beach, Ong Lang), which can make swimming uncomfortable on rough days. During this same period, the east coast beaches (Bai Sao, Bai Vong) are sheltered from the southwest winds and can have calmer conditions. The reverse applies in winter — the east coast is occasionally affected by northeast winds while Long Beach remains sheltered. This seasonal flip makes having transport to switch between coasts valuable.

questions & answers

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the most beautiful beach in Phu Quoc?

Bai Sao (Star Beach) in the south is consistently cited as Phu Quoc's most beautiful conventional beach — fine white sand, shallow turquoise water, and a row of coconut palms against a clear sky. It is significantly quieter than Long Beach and has a more photogenic natural setting. The An Thoi island beaches, accessible only by boat during the An Thoi archipelago tours, rival Bai Sao for beauty with the added context of coral reef immediately offshore.

Is Long Beach good for swimming?

Long Beach (Bai Truong) is Phu Quoc's main tourist beach — 20 km long, backed by hotels and guesthouses, and facing west for spectacular sunsets. The northern part (near Duong Dong town) is the most developed and most crowded. The central and southern sections are calmer and cleaner. Swimming conditions are generally excellent from November to April; May to October can bring onshore winds and some debris on the beach from monsoon rains. The water is warm year-round.

Which beach is best for families?

Long Beach's central section and Bai Sao are both good for families — calm, shallow water for children, good facilities (restaurants, sunbed hire, toilets), and safe swimming conditions. Ong Lang Beach is quieter and has several family-friendly boutique resorts directly on the sand. The Vinpearl resort beaches in the south offer the most complete resort infrastructure for families (pools, kids' clubs, water parks) at a higher price point.

Are there uncrowded beaches on Phu Quoc?

Yes — despite rapid development, Phu Quoc still has uncrowded beaches. Ganh Dau Beach in the northwest, near the northernmost tip, is mostly visited by Vietnamese day-trippers and has a local fishing village character. Bai Vong (Vong Beach) on the east coast is a working harbour beach with some quiet stretches. The beaches of the An Thoi Archipelago islands south of Phu Quoc are only accessible by boat and are visited primarily on island-hopping tours — arrive at the islands early for relative solitude.
