Dry Season

Visiting Phuket in February

February is one of Phuket's finest months — the dry season is in full command, the Andaman Sea is calm and clear, and the post-January drop in visitors makes the island a touch more breathable. Chinese New Year adds a festive cultural dimension that tourists rarely factor into their planning: Old Phuket Town's Sino-Portuguese streets become the backdrop for one of southern Thailand's most atmospheric celebrations.

Events & Holidays in February

Chinese New Year

Late January or early to mid-February (lunar calendar, date varies)

Phuket Town comes alive for Chinese New Year — the island's large Sino-Thai community celebrates with dragon dances, temple visits at Jui Tui Shrine, firecrackers, and red lantern displays along Thalang Road and Dibuk Road. One of the most authentic CNY experiences in southern Thailand.

Valentine's Day

14 February

Phuket's luxury resorts and beachfront restaurants pull out all stops for Valentine's Day — sunset beach dinners, couple spa packages, and private villa specials. Book well in advance if visiting around 14 February.

Travel Tips for February

If your visit coincides with Chinese New Year, base yourself in Old Phuket Town for at least one night — the street atmosphere is exceptional and the celebration is genuinely local rather than tourist-facing.

February is the best month for the Similan Islands day trip — seas are at their calmest and visibility peaks at 20–25 metres. Book the trip before you arrive in Phuket.

Kata Noi and Nai Harn beaches offer peak-condition water with noticeably fewer tourists than Kata or Patong.

common questions

FAQ — Bali in February

Is February a good time to visit Phuket?

February is one of Phuket's very best months. Weather is excellent, seas are calm, and the slight drop in tourists from January makes the island more pleasant. Chinese New Year adds a festive bonus for those visiting Old Phuket Town. Accommodation and tour prices remain at high-season levels, but the overall experience is excellent.

Does it rain in Phuket in February?

Rarely. February averages fewer than 5 rainy days and under 30mm of total rainfall — the driest period of the year. You should plan outdoor activities without worrying about rain. If a brief shower occurs, it is typically short-lived and happens in the afternoon.

How busy is Phuket in February?

Very busy, but slightly less so than January. The post-New Year drop in European visitors and the Valentine's period rather than a full holiday rush means February is fractionally less crowded than January — though still firmly peak season. Popular beaches and restaurants still require early morning arrivals or advance reservations.
