Cocos Island & Lagoon
A small barrier island off Guam's southern tip, reached by ferry from Merizo, ringed by a calm reef lagoon. A resort day-out for snorkelling, diving, parasailing, kayaking, and white-sand beach time in clear, shallow water.
About
Cocos Island (Islan Dåno') is a small, low barrier island lying off Guam's southern tip, across the calm waters of Cocos Lagoon from the village of Merizo (Malesso'). Reached by a short ferry from the Merizo pier, the island is given over largely to a resort and is one of Guam's most popular day trips, especially for water activities: the sheltered, shallow lagoon and surrounding reef make for easy snorkelling and diving among coral and fish, while the resort offers parasailing, kayaking, jet-skiing, banana-boat rides, and even land activities like dune-buggy trails and bird watching. White-sand beaches and clear, calm water make it an easy place to simply swim and relax too. Because it sits at the quiet southern end of the island, a trip to Cocos is usually combined with a scenic drive through southern Guam's villages and historic sites, making for a full and varied day away from the Tumon resort strip.
