Day 1
Old Phuket Town & Patong Beach
Transfer from Phuket Airport (use Grab — about 500–700 THB to Patong). Head straight to Old Phuket Town on Thalang Road to explore Sino-Portuguese shophouses, colourful street art by Uptown Phuket, and the weekend walking street market. Stop at Kopitiam by Wilai for a local breakfast of dim sum and kopi.
Airport transfer options →Head to Patong Beach for your first look at Phuket's famous west coast — rent a sunbed, swim, and soak in the scene. Drive or Grab to Karon Viewpoint (Three Beaches Hill) for a sweeping panorama over Kata, Karon, and Kata Noi beaches before sunset.
Patong's Bangla Road is Phuket's famous entertainment strip — lively, loud, and unmissable for the experience. For a quieter evening, Kata Beach's beachfront restaurants serve fresh grilled seafood. Try the pad kra pao (basil stir-fry) or tom yum at any local restaurant.
Tip: Download Grab before landing — it's significantly cheaper than airport taxis for the trip to your hotel, and avoids the fare negotiation hassle entirely.
Day 2
Phi Phi Islands Speedboat Day Trip
Early departure (8 am) from Rassada Pier or your hotel jetty — book a speedboat day tour the previous evening. The 45-minute crossing brings you to Maya Bay (filming location of The Beach), now fully recovered and more beautiful than ever. Go early — day-tripper boats thin out by 9 am and the water is at its clearest.
Phi Phi Island tours →Continue the island circuit: snorkel at the coral-rich waters of Pileh Lagoon, pass Viking Cave (home to edible bird's nests), and finish with a relaxed stop at Bamboo Island (Koh Mai Phai) — a small, largely uncrowded islet with excellent snorkelling in shallow turquoise water.
Return to Phuket by 5 pm. Freshen up and head to Kata Beach for one of the island's most pleasant beachfront dining experiences — the Kata area has a good mix of Thai restaurants, seafood grills, and cafés. Try massaman curry or a whole grilled barramundi at a beachside table.
Tip: Book Phi Phi speedboat tours in advance during December–February — they sell out. Tours include snorkelling gear, lunch, and fruit. All-inclusive prices range from 1,500–2,500 THB per person.
Day 3
Big Buddha, Wat Chalong & Promthep Cape
The 45-metre white Carrara marble Big Buddha on Nakkerd Hill is Phuket's most iconic landmark. Walk the final steps to the base of the statue for 360° views over Kata, Karon, and Chalong Bay. The hilltop catches a breeze even on hot days — visit before 10 am to beat the heat and the tour buses.
Top Phuket attractions →Stop at Wat Chalong — Phuket's largest and most important Buddhist temple — a 15-minute drive from Big Buddha. Its golden pagoda, ornate murals, and serene grounds are well worth 30–45 minutes. Then head to Kata Noi Beach (Phuket's quietest major beach) for a final swim before packing.
Promthep Cape at the southern tip of Phuket is the island's most celebrated sunset spot. Arrive by 5:30 pm for a good vantage point — the view over the Andaman Sea with Koh Man Island in the distance is unforgettable. Evening flight departures work perfectly after catching the sunset.
Airport transport guide →Tip: Rent a scooter or book a private driver for Day 3 — Big Buddha, Wat Chalong, and Promthep Cape form a natural loop that is awkward by Grab due to wait times at each stop.

common questions
3 days is enough to see the highlights — Old Phuket Town, a Phi Phi Islands day trip, Big Buddha, and the top beaches. You will not see everything, but this itinerary covers what most visitors consider the essential Phuket experience.
November through April (dry season) is ideal — calm seas, sunny days, and Phi Phi Island conditions are best. December to February is peak season with the most tourists and highest prices. November and March offer excellent conditions with fewer crowds.
Use Grab for airport transfers and between-beach hops. For Day 3 (Big Buddha, Wat Chalong, Promthep Cape), rent a scooter or book a private driver for the day (1,500–2,500 THB) — the loop doesn't work well on a meter basis.
Kata is a better base for a 3-day trip — quieter, cleaner beach, and more pleasant dining. Patong offers more nightlife options. Both are well-positioned for day trips to Phi Phi. Kata Noi and Karon are also excellent mid-range options.
Budget travellers: 2,500–4,000 THB/day (guesthouse, local food, Phi Phi group tour). Mid-range: 5,000–9,000 THB/day (3-star beach hotel, tourist restaurants, speedboat tour). Luxury: 15,000+ THB/day (5-star resort and private tours).
