Nai Harn Beach
A scenic, locally loved bay near Phuket's southern tip, backed by a lagoon and a monastery rather than high-rises. Clean water and gentle sand make it a relaxed swimming and sunset beach away from the busier west-coast strips.
About
Nai Harn, near Phuket's southern tip, is the beach locals often name as their own favourite — a sheltered, crescent bay that has stayed comparatively unspoiled because much of its backshore is occupied by a freshwater lagoon and the grounds of a Buddhist monastery rather than a wall of hotels. The result is a clean, relatively uncommercial beach with soft sand, clear and usually calm water that's excellent for swimming in the high season, and a backdrop of green hills. It's a fine spot for a sunset, can be combined with nearby Promthep Cape and the Windmill Viewpoint on the headland just to the south, and the surrounding area has grown a low-key scene of cafés and restaurants. As on Phuket's whole west coast, the monsoon months (May–October) can bring strong surf and rip currents, so heed the warning flags; outside that season it's one of the south's most relaxing beaches.
