Day 1

Mactan Arrival & Resort Settle-In

MorningArrive & Check In

Land at Mactan-Cebu International Airport and transfer to your Mactan Island hotel (5–20 minutes by Grab or taxi depending on the resort zone). Take the morning easy — unpack, get your bearings, and if the tide is right, wade into the house reef. The calm, clear water needs no snorkel tour on Day 1.

AfternoonMactan House Reef & Beach

Spend the afternoon at your resort beach or the nearby public shoreline. Mactan's reef is accessible directly from the beach — sea turtles, lionfish, and parrotfish are common encounters within 50–100 metres of shore. The resort beach club environment means everything is laid on: chairs, towels, cold drinks, and snorkel rental.

Best beaches in Cebu →
EveningResort Dinner & Sunset

Mactan Island faces west — your first Cebu sunset is from the beach. Dinner at a waterfront restaurant or your resort's main restaurant. Many Mactan resorts have multiple outlets; the seafood buffet format (common at major properties) is a good way to sample broadly on the first night.

Where to eat in Cebu →

Tip: Jet lag and travel tiredness are real. Keep Day 1 genuinely light — the rest of the week is active.

2

Day 2

Cebu City Heritage & Food Culture

MorningSanto Niño Basilica, Magellan's Cross & Fort San Pedro

Grab to Cebu City (30–50 minutes). The Basilica Minore del Santo Niño is the spiritual centre of the Philippines — built in 1565 around the image of the infant Jesus gifted by Magellan to Queen Juana of Cebu on his arrival. The adjacent Magellan's Cross chapel and Fort San Pedro triangular fortification complete a compact 2-hour walking heritage circuit.

Things to do in Cebu City →
AfternoonLechon at CNT or Zubuchon + Carbon Market

Lunch at one of Cebu's great lechon houses — arrive before 1pm. After lunch, wander the Carbon Market: the oldest and largest public market in Cebu, packed with dried fish stalls, produce vendors, rattan baskets, and street food at wholesale prices. Taboan Market, two blocks away, sells vacuum-packed danggit and chorizo de Cebu for souvenirs.

Best food in Cebu →
EveningLahug Café & IT Park Dinner

The Lahug neighbourhood is Cebu City's specialty coffee district. Spend the late afternoon café-hopping — pour-over bars, local Arabica roasters, and airy spaces. Dinner at an IT Park restaurant: the tech-park strip has Filipino, Japanese, Korean, and contemporary fusion at mid-range prices.

Cafes in Cebu →

Tip: The Carbon Market is best visited before noon. It winds down by early afternoon and can feel unsafe after dark.

Day 3

Oslob Whale Sharks + Kawasan Falls

MorningOslob Whale Shark Snorkelling

Pre-booked tour departs Mactan hotels at 4:00–4:30am. Arrive Oslob around 7:30–8am — swimming starts immediately as conditions are best before 9am. Whale sharks are 5–12 metres long, fed by fishermen to keep them in the area; swimmers stay 5 metres from the body and 3 metres from the tail per the briefing rules. Extraordinary and slightly surreal.

Things to do in Oslob →
AfternoonKawasan Falls Canyoneering

Transfer to Badian (1.5 hours). The canyon tour runs 3–4 hours through river gorges, cliff jumps, and a natural water slide before arriving at Kawasan's vivid blue-green main falls. It is demanding — cliff jumps are optional but most participants do them. The experience is widely rated as Cebu's best adventure activity.

Things to do in Cebu →
EveningReturn & Rest

Tour arrives back at Mactan around 7–8pm. This is the most exhausting day of the trip — your muscles will know about the canyon in the morning. Dinner at a nearby restaurant and an early night before Moalboal tomorrow.

Top restaurants →

Tip: Most combined Oslob + Kawasan tours include a packed lunch eaten between the two activities. Bring a change of dry clothes for the afternoon — you'll be soaking wet after the canyon and the Oslob swim.

Day 4

Moalboal — Sardine Run, Sea Turtles & Diving

MorningTravel to Moalboal & First Dive

Bus from South Terminal (2–2.5 hours, ₱120) or private van (1.5 hours) to Moalboal's Panagsama Beach. Check into a dive resort and rent gear. The sardine run is 5 minutes' walk from the beach — wade in from shore and the school materialises around you in 2–4 metres of water. Experienced divers book a morning dive with a local operator (from ₱700 including guide and air).

Things to do in Moalboal →
AfternoonPescador Island Dive

A 15-minute pumpboat ride takes you to Pescador Island, one of Cebu's most celebrated dive sites: a vertical drop-off wall dense with soft coral, plus the famous cathedral cave at 18–24 metres — a cavern that opens to filtered light from above. Two dives at Pescador is a full afternoon of genuinely outstanding diving.

Diving in Cebu →
EveningPanagsama Beach Sunset & Local Dinner

Panagsama Beach at sunset: pebble foreshore, dive resort decks, cold beer, the Bohol Sea turning gold. Dinner at one of the simple restaurants along the beach road — fresh-caught fish grilled to order, rice, local vegetables. Budget ₱250–₱400 including drinks.

Restaurants in Moalboal →

Tip: Sleep in Moalboal tonight rather than returning to Mactan — waking up with the dive sites at your door makes Day 5's early Malapascua departure far more manageable.

5

Day 5

North to Malapascua Island

MorningBus Back to Cebu City + North Terminal

Early bus from Moalboal back to Cebu City South Terminal (2–2.5 hours), then taxi or Grab to the North Bus Terminal. Air-conditioned bus or van to Maya Port in northern Cebu (3–3.5 hours, ₱130–₱160). From Maya, regular pumpboats run to Malapascua Island (20–30 minutes, ₱100–₱150).

Getting around Cebu →
AfternoonArrive Malapascua — Bounty Beach

Malapascua is a small, car-free island with one main road and a population of a few hundred. Bounty Beach — the main arc of white sand facing the Visayan Sea — is one of the most beautiful beaches in Cebu province. Check into your dive resort, walk the island in 45 minutes, and do a late-afternoon reef dive if energy allows.

Things to do on Malapascua →
EveningMalapascua Dive Resort Dinner

Malapascua's restaurants are simple, affordable, and genuinely good. Most dive resort restaurants serve fresh seafood, Filipino staples, and Western comfort food. The island quiets down by 9pm — an early dinner and early bed is the move before the 4:30am thresher shark departure.

Top restaurants →

Tip: Set two alarms for 4:00am. Thresher shark dive boats from Malapascua depart between 4:30–5:00am to reach Monad Shoal before sunrise — the sharks ascend for cleaning in the dim pre-dawn light.

6

Day 6

Malapascua — Thresher Sharks & Bounty Beach

MorningThresher Shark Dive at Monad Shoal

Pre-dawn boat to Monad Shoal — a seamount 7km off Malapascua where thresher sharks ascend from 200m+ depths to a cleaning station at 20–30m each morning. Certified divers descend and hold position; the sharks arrive, circle slowly while cleaner wrasse attend to them, and retreat back into the blue. One of the most remarkable wildlife dives in the world.

Diving in Cebu →
AfternoonBounty Beach & Second Dive

Return to Malapascua by 8am for breakfast and a rest. A second afternoon dive at a different Malapascua site — Gato Island (for sharks and sea snakes), Lighthouse Reef, or Bantigue Reef — adds a contrasting experience to the thresher shark morning. Non-divers spend the day on Bounty Beach, which is genuinely excellent.

Best beaches in Cebu →
EveningFinal Malapascua Sunset

Malapascua's sunsets over the Visayan Sea from Bounty Beach are spectacular. Dinner at a beachfront restaurant — whole grilled lapu-lapu (grouper), crab with coconut cream, and cold beer. The island atmosphere at dusk is deeply peaceful.

Where to eat in Cebu →

Tip: Malapascua has no ATMs — bring enough cash from Cebu City. Dive resorts accept card payment but charge a surcharge; cash is preferred.

7

Day 7

Return to Mactan & Departure

MorningPumpboat to Maya & Return South

Morning pumpboat from Malapascua to Maya Port, then bus or van back to Cebu City (3–3.5 hours). Allow the full morning for this transfer. If your flight is late afternoon or evening, you have time for a lunch stop in Cebu City.

Getting around Cebu →
AfternoonFinal Lechon Lunch & Mactan Airport

A final lechon lunch in Cebu City (CNT or Zubuchon) before heading to the airport is the traditional last meal. Transfer to Mactan-Cebu International Airport — allow 1.5 hours from central Cebu City. The airport has good duty-free shops for last-minute souvenirs.

Best food in Cebu →
EveningFly Home

Mactan-Cebu International Airport connects directly to Manila, Seoul, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and multiple international hubs. Most evening departures arrive in Asian cities the same evening or the following morning.

Tip: Budget 2 hours for the Malapascua-to-airport journey on the day of departure: pumpboat + bus/van + city transfer. For flights before 2pm, stay in Cebu City on the final night rather than Malapascua.

common questions

FAQ — 7 Days in Guam

Is 7 days enough to see all of Cebu?

7 days covers Cebu's main highlights at a comfortable pace: Mactan Island, Cebu City heritage, Oslob whale sharks, Kawasan Falls, Moalboal sardine run and diving, and Malapascua thresher sharks. What 7 days doesn't reach: the Camotes Islands, Bantayan Island, and a slower exploration of south Cebu. For those, 10–14 days is ideal.

Do I need to be a certified diver to enjoy Cebu for 7 days?

No — all of Cebu's headline nature experiences except the Malapascua thresher shark dives can be done by snorkellers. The Moalboal sardine run, Hilutungan Marine Sanctuary, and Oslob whale sharks are all snorkellable. Malapascua is technically Open Water-accessible (20–30m depth) but practically better for experienced divers. Non-divers visiting Malapascua still enjoy Bounty Beach and the atmosphere.

What is the best time of year for this 7-day itinerary?

December to May covers the dry season and is the best window. For divers specifically targeting thresher sharks at Malapascua, March to May is the most reliable period for multiple encounters per morning dive. The Sinulog Festival (third Sunday of January) is spectacular if Day 2 (Cebu City) aligns — but accommodation books out weeks in advance.

How much does a 7-day Cebu trip cost?

Budget backpacker (buses, guesthouses, local food): $40–$60/day. Mid-range traveller (comfortable hotels, organised tours, sit-down restaurants): $120–$200/day. Luxury (Mactan resort, private tours, fine dining): $400–$700+/day. The dive-heavy version of this itinerary adds approximately $100–$150 for Moalboal and Malapascua diving costs on top of base accommodation and transport.
