Bantayan Island
A laid-back island off Cebu's northern tip, famous for powdery white sand, shallow turquoise water, and an unhurried pace. Reached by ferry from Hagnaya, it's the island for slow beach days and sunsets rather than nightlife.
About
Bantayan Island, off the northwestern tip of Cebu, is the island people go to in order to do very little — a flat, easygoing place ringed with some of the finest white-sand beaches in the region, where powdery sand slopes into shallow, calm, turquoise water ideal for long lazy swims. The main beach area around Santa Fe is the hub for resorts and the nicest sand, while the rest of the island rolls on through small fishing villages, the old Spanish church of St Peter and St Paul in Bantayan town, and quiet coves reached by bike or motorbike. Famous within the Philippines as a Holy Week getaway, it has a distinctly slow, unpolished charm — more about hammocks, sunsets, fresh seafood, and bicycle rides than nightlife or big attractions. Getting there is part of the experience: a drive to the northern port of Hagnaya followed by a roughly hour-long ferry to Santa Fe, which keeps the crowds thinner than Cebu's more accessible spots.
