Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) Cultural Park
A vast clifftop culture park crowned by one of the world's tallest statues — a 121-metre figure of the god Vishnu astride the mythical bird Garuda — with daily Balinese dance performances and panoramic views.
About
Garuda Wisnu Kencana is a sprawling cultural park on the limestone heights of the Bukit Peninsula, built around a monumental statue of the Hindu god Vishnu riding Garuda, the eagle-like creature of legend. Completed in 2018 after nearly three decades of work, the copper-and-brass figure stands 121 metres tall including its pedestal, making it one of the tallest statues in the world and visible from much of southern Bali. The park around it is carved from dramatic walls of stone — the 'Lotus Pond' and 'Street Theater' plazas host daily programmes of Balinese dance, from the Barong to the Kecak, culminating in a sunset performance. While it is a modern, purpose-built attraction rather than an ancient temple, GWK offers sweeping views, a comfortable introduction to Balinese performing arts, and the chance to stand beneath a genuinely staggering piece of monumental sculpture.
