business.about
High in the Karangasem mountains, this ancient Hindu temple complex dates back to the 11th century. Founded by King Jayasakti during a spiritual mission from his father, Sang Hyang Guru, Lempuyang Temple sits on a sacred mountain fragment believed to be part of Mount Mahameru brought from India. Pilgrims and tourists climb steep stone steps to reach the famous 'Gates of Heaven', which frame Mount Agung in a dramatic panoramic view. The temple hosts two annual ceremonies: one every 210 days and another during the full moon between March and April.
