Bali Area GuideNusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia

Nusa Dua, Bali

Bali's luxury resort enclave โ€” calm beaches, five-star hotels, and convention facilities

Nusa Dua is Bali's purpose-built luxury resort zone in the southern Bukit peninsula, developed in the 1970s specifically for international tourism. It is a walled, maintained area of five-star hotels โ€” The Mulia, St. Regis, Grand Hyatt, Hilton, and others โ€” set around a protected lagoon with calm, swimmable waters. Unlike the rest of south Bali, Nusa Dua has very little traffic, clean streets, and strict standards around the resort precinct. The Bali Collection shopping mall provides retail and dining options within the zone. Nusa Dua is the most family-friendly beach destination in south Bali โ€” the calm turquoise water inside the reef is safe for children. It is also the main conference and incentive destination on the island, home to the Bali International Convention Centre.

  • Calm lagoon beach โ€” the safest swimming in south Bali, protected from ocean swell
  • The Mulia resort โ€” Bali's most consistently rated ultra-luxury property
  • Water Blow blow-hole at the Peninsular โ€” dramatic wave action on the cliff edge

Know Before You Base Yourself in Nusa Dua

What Nusa Dua does best

Nusa Dua is Bali's easiest luxury-and-family beach base. It wins on calm water, service standards, and low friction, but it is intentionally insulated from the messier, more characterful parts of the island.

How to balance the resort bubble

Stay here if comfort is the priority, then add day trips for temples, Ubud, or Jimbaran dinners. Travellers who want spontaneous cafรฉs, nightlife, or surf culture usually prefer Seminyak, Canggu, or Uluwatu instead.

questions & answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Nusa Dua the best area for families in Bali?

Nusa Dua is generally considered the best base for families with young children in south Bali. The calm lagoon water is safe for swimming, the resort zone is clean and low-traffic, and the five-star hotels have excellent children's clubs, pools, and family room configurations. The main trade-off is isolation from authentic Bali culture โ€” Nusa Dua is a resort bubble. Families wanting cultural experiences should add a 2-night Ubud stay alongside their Nusa Dua base.
